Questions

Why does each kind of work have a different VDA in Andhra Pradesh?

Each notification links its basic wage to a price index base, such as 525 or 847 points, and sets a VDA rate per point. The VDA is the points the index has risen above that base, times the rate. From 1 October 2026 the index for industrial workers is 1,958 points, so a factory notification based at 847 points adds 1,111 points of VDA. The next figures are due on 1 April 2027.

Is there a separate minimum wage for contract labour?

Yes. The Commissioner of Labour fixes wages for contract labour under rule 25(v)(b) of the A.P. Contract Labour Rules, 1971, linked to the same price index: from 1 October 2026, ₹12,856.05 a month unskilled and ₹18,633.50 skilled. A contract worker in a scheduled employment is also owed that employment's minimum wage.
